It's All About Him

The most difficult lesson we learn while growing up is that we are not the center of the universe. And it seems we have to learn that lesson over and over and over as we struggle against the culture that says, It's all about me." In the joblessphere we focus all too much on "me."

And its hard! I even have an email address with "@me.com!"

In our relationship with God, we tend to confuse thanking God for all His blessings with worshipping God just for Who He is, quite apart from His blessings. I had a great reminder of that today from Psalm 16.

Psalm 16:2 states, " I said to the Lord, 'You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.'" The whole Psalm is great for those of us in the joblessphere. Verse 1, "Keep me safe O God, for in you I take refuge." Verse 5, "Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure."

Verse 8 says, "I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken... my heart is glad...my tongue rejoices...my body will also rest secure,"

Oh, I see, it is all about Him, not me. When I have that perspective and only then, can I experience that security, joy and rest.

When God is our total focus we can say with the Psalmist, "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." (verse 11)
